This is the conversation you'd have with someone who already knows how FilterPixel works and just wants to point you to the right plan. We'll start with the one concept that makes everything else click, then walk through the plans, then help you figure out where you fit. By the end you'll know exactly what to pick and why.
First, the only thing you really need to understand
FilterPixel has two ways of culling your photos, and the whole pricing model is built on the difference between them.![]()
Basic Culling
It is the workhorse. It looks at the technical quality of every frame. It looks for is it sharp, is it well-exposed, are the eyes open, is this a near-duplicate of the shot next to it and flags the keepers and the rejects. It's fast, it's reliable, and here's the important part: it's unlimited on every single plan, including the free trial. You will never pay extra for basic culling, no matter how many photos you throw at it.

DeepCull
It is the smart one. Instead of just asking "is this technically good?", it asks "is this the shot?" It actually understands the kind of event you shot. At a wedding it hunts for the emotional peaks. At a conference it finds the keynote moments. In sports it locks onto peak action. At a concert it catches the performance highs. And every photo it picks comes with a Score and a plain-English Reason, so you're never just trusting a black box and you can see why it chose what it chose, even when you're culling at 1am before a morning deadline.
That second mode, DeepCull, is the thing you're really paying for. So when you look at the plans, ignore everything else for a second and ask one question: how much DeepCull do I need?
How DeepCull is measured: "Shoots"
DeepCull is counted in shoots, and one shoot is simple to picture:
1 DeepCull shoot = up to 5,500 photos.
That's comfortably a full wedding day, a conference, or a tournament session, done in a single pass.
What if you've got more than 5,500 photos? FilterPixel just splits them for you automatically. Upload a 16,000-photo wedding weekend and it becomes three DeepCull shoots (5,500 + 5,500 + 5,000). Nothing's lost, it just counts as three against your allowance instead of one.
A small tip from us: when you're working with a really big take, don't dump all 16,000 photos in at once and walk away. Batch them deliberately and group them into sensible chunks and cull one batch at a time. It keeps your review focused and your results cleaner.
And to be crystal clear: the 5,500 limit only applies to DeepCull.
Basic culling has no cap at all. You can run unlimited photos through basic culling on any plan. (For the smoothest performance, we suggest keeping each basic project somewhere in the 10,000–20,000 photo range. It's not a rule, just a sweet spot.)
That's the entire mental model. Two culling modes, basic is free and unlimited, DeepCull is counted in 5,500-photo shoots. Everything below is just details.
Try it free before you decide
You don't have to guess which mode you'll lean on. The free trial gives you 4 projects so you can feel both modes on your own photos:
- One full DeepCull project — the real genre-specific AI, up to 5,500 photos (and yes, bigger uploads auto-split here too, and can show error if you dont have a paid plan.)
- Three Basic culling projects — 10,000 photos for 3 projects
The three plans
Every paid plan gives you unlimited basic culling, all four genre modes, Score + Reason on every photo, AI editing with built-in profiles, and Lightroom + Capture One integration. What changes between them is how many DeepCull shoots you get, plus a few workflow upgrades as you move up.
Each plan can be billed monthly or annually. Annual is the same product at a lower effective price, with your full year of shoots available up front.![]()
Standard | For the steady, lower-volume shooter
$14.99/mo billed annually ($180/year), or $19.99/mo month-to-month.
DeepCull: 2 shoots a month (20 a year on the annual plan).
This is the plan for portrait, family, and occasional wedding photographers and anyone with a handful of sessions a month who wants genre-smart culling without paying for volume they won't touch. You get the complete culling and editing toolkit: unlimited basic cull, all genre modes, Score + Reason, AI Edit, Lightroom + Capture One, JPEG + RAW support, and in-app support.
Think of Standard as "everything you need to cull beautifully, sized for a calmer calendar."
Pro | For the deadline photographer ⭐ Most popular
$34.99/mo billed annually ($420/year), or $49.99/mo month-to-month.
DeepCull: 6 shoots a month (70 a year on the annual plan).
This is the one most working pros land on, and it's built for people delivering under pressure like sports, concerts, conferences, same-day weddings. Six DeepCull shoots a month matches a real booking calendar, and it adds the tools that matter when the clock is running:
- Magic Number — tell it exactly how many selects you want, and it hands you that count
- JPEG export for same-night delivery — get files out the door before you leave the venue
- Priority cloud processing — your jobs move to the front of the queue
- 2 custom trainable AI profiles — teach the editing AI your own style
If your income depends on turning a big take around fast, this is your plan.
Studio | For teams delivering under pressure
$64.99/mo billed annually ($780/year), or $99.99/mo month-to-month.
DeepCull: 12 shoots a month (140 a year on the annual plan).
Studio is for agencies and multi-photographer teams feeding one delivery pipeline. It takes everything in Pro and adds the things a team needs:
- Up to 5 team seats
- 5 custom trainable AI profiles
- A team usage dashboard — see how shoots are being spent across everyone
- VIP support plus an onboarding call
- Early access to new features
If multiple shooters are culling toward shared deadlines, Studio keeps the whole operation coordinated
Ran out of shoots? Just add one
Booked a surprise extra event? On any plan you can add a single DeepCull shoot for $7.99 with up to 5,500 photos, no plan change, no commitment. And because basic culling never stops regardless of your DeepCull balance, your workflow never actually stalls while you decide whether to top up or upgrade.![]()

So… which plan is for you?
Here's the shortcut.
- "I shoot a few sessions a month — portraits, families, the occasional wedding." → Standard. Two DeepCull shoots a month is plenty, and you still get the full toolkit.
- "I shoot events for a living and I'm always racing a deadline." → Pro. Six shoots a month plus Magic Number, same-night export, and priority processing is the deadline photographer's setup. This is where most people belong.
- "We're a team, multiple shooters, shared delivery." → Studio. Five seats, twelve shoots a month, and a dashboard to keep it all accountable.
- "I only need an extra shoot once in a blue moon." → Stay on the smaller plan and add shoots for $7.99 as they come up.
And if you're not sure? Start the free trial, run one real shoot through DeepCull, and let the result make the call for you.
Quick answers to the usual questions
What's the actual difference between basic culling and DeepCull? Basic culling judges technical quality like sharp, exposed, eyes open. DeepCull judges meaning the moment that matters for your genre and shows you a Score and Reason for each pick. Basic is unlimited everywhere; DeepCull is what the plans meter.
How big is one DeepCull shoot? Up to 5,500 photos. Go over and it auto-splits into more shoots of up to 5,500 each, so a 16,000-photo job uses three. Batch big takes and cull one chunk at a time for the cleanest results.
Does basic culling have any limit? No. Unlimited photos on every plan. (We just suggest 10,000–20,000 per project for the smoothest experience.)
What happens when I run out of DeepCull shoots? Add one anytime for $7.99. Meanwhile your basic culling keeps running, so nothing stops.
Monthly or annual — what really changes? Same features, same shoot size, same behavior. Annual just lowers your effective monthly price and gives you the whole year's shoots up front.
Can I move between plans? Yes — upgrade whenever you need more, and your new shoots and features are available right away.
The fastest way to know which plan fits is to feel it.
Start the free trial with one full DeepCull project and three Basic projects, the real engine, no commitment and let your own photos decide.
