# [QR Code Photos for Weddings: Setup, Costs, AI Delivery](https://filterpixel.com/blog/qr-code-photos-wedding)

**Quick answer:** "QR code photos" means a QR code that guests scan to get photos onto or off their phones. At weddings it comes in two forms. A guest-upload album collects the photos guests took. Photographer delivery sends each guest the professional photos they appear in. Both replace hardware that used to sit at the venue, starting with the photo booth, which has a median rental of $886 for weddings in 2026.

This guide explains both kinds, how to set one up, what the apps and the hardware they replace actually cost, and how a wedding studio can deliver its own photos to every guest with AI.

- **Two kinds:** guests upload to the couple, or the photographer delivers to guests.
- **App prices:** free tiers up to about $150 per event.
- **What it replaces:** a photo booth (median $886 at weddings), disposable cameras, a print station.
- **For studios:** guest delivery becomes an add-on you sell with no equipment to buy.

## What "QR code photos" means at a wedding

There are two different products behind the same printed square.

- **Guest-upload albums.** Guests scan the code and take or upload photos on their phones. The couple gets one shared album of candid shots.
- **Photographer delivery.** Guests scan the code and receive the professional photos they appear in, taken by the wedding photographer, during the event.

The first collects photos from guests. The second sends photos to guests. Most of the tools you find when you search for a QR code for wedding photos are the first kind. Our round-up of [wedding photo apps](https://filterpixel.com/blog/wedding-photo-apps) covers more of the tools photographers use.

## How to set up a QR code for wedding photos

The steps are the same whichever kind you choose. The first four follow [Guestlense's setup guide](https://www.guestlense.com/articles/qr-code-wedding-photo-albums-how-to-set-one-up-for-your-2026-wedding) for a guest-upload album, and the fifth is our own advice:

1. **Pick the service.** Decide first whether you are collecting guests' photos or delivering the photographer's.
2. **Create the album.** Name the event, set who can see it, and generate the code.
3. **Personalise it.** Add a cover and decide whether it is open to anyone with the code or by invitation only.
4. **Print the code where guests will see it.** The guide suggests table tents, cocktail napkins, bar signage, ceremony programmes, the welcome sign and thank-you cards.
5. **Tell guests once.** Ask the emcee to mention the code early in the evening.

Keep the sign wording short. Say what the code does and what the guest gets: "Scan to get your photos from tonight" works better than a paragraph of instructions.

## What QR code photo apps cost

[PartyCam's comparison of wedding photo sharing apps](https://partycam.app/blog/best-qr-code-wedding-photo-apps-2026), published in May 2026, lists per-event prices for a dozen services. A selection:

| Service | How guests add photos | Listed price |
| --- | --- | --- |
| PartyCam | Browser camera | $14.99 to $149.99 |
| POV | Browser camera with a shot limit | $4.99 to $89.99 |
| Lense | Browser camera, 25 shots per guest | $4.99 to $99.99 |
| GuestCam | Browser upload | $49 to $97 |
| Guestpix | Bulk upload | $49 to $119 |
| Kululu | Upload, with a live slideshow | Free to $99 |
| Wedibox | Upload, with RSVP and seating tools | Free to $79 |

Every service in that list collects guests' own photos. None of them sends guests the photographer's photos.

## What the QR code replaces, and what that hardware costs

Before QR codes, getting photos into guests' hands meant equipment at the venue.

### The photo booth

[Check Cherry's 2026 pricing guide](https://www.checkcherry.com/articles/235-how-much-does-a-photo-booth-rental-cost-a-2026-pricing-guide), based on about 118,000 rentals, gives these figures for weddings:

| Wedding photo booth rental | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Lower quarter | $631 |
| Median | $886 |
| Upper quarter | $1,305 |
| Top 10% | $1,973 |

By format, the median is $615 for a classic open-air booth, $866 for a mirror booth and $950 for a glam booth. Our full breakdown is in the [photo booth rental cost guide](https://filterpixel.com/blog/photo-booth-rental-cost).

### Disposable cameras on the tables

Each camera has to be bought, collected and developed. [Cultured Kiwi's price check](https://www.culturedkiwi.com/how-much-does-it-cost-to-develop-a-disposable-camera/) puts developing a 24-exposure camera at $9.96 at Walmart, $15.99 at Walgreens and $17.85 at CVS, about $15 on average, with turnaround from three business days to three weeks. Ten tables is about $150 in developing alone, before the cameras, and nobody sees a photo until the film comes back.

### A print station

Some studios bring a printer and an assistant so guests can take a print home. Media runs at about 16.7 cents for a 4×6, according to [The Pricer](https://www.thepricer.org/kodak-kiosk-cost/), and the station ties a person and a table to one spot all evening.

All three put hardware between the photo and the guest. None of them delivers the photographer's best work, which is the set of photos guests most want to share.

## What guest-upload albums leave out

- **The good photos.** The album holds phone photos. The photographer's frames arrive later, in a gallery sent to the couple.
- **Finding your own.** Guests scroll the whole album to find the few they are in.
- **Quality control.** Whatever is uploaded is what everyone sees.
- **The studio.** Nothing in the album carries the photographer's name, so the shares do no marketing for the person who shot the wedding.

## Photographer delivery with AI: how it works

This is the part a studio can now offer without bringing anything extra to the venue.

1. **Your team shoots and uploads.** Upload from the venue as each function runs. Nothing changes about how you shoot.
2. **AI keeps the best frames.** [DeepCull](https://filterpixel.com/deepcull) drops blinks, blur and near-duplicates, and your editing profile gives every photo one look. This is the same step described in our guide to [culling wedding photos](https://filterpixel.com/blog/how-to-cull-wedding-photos).
3. **Adult guests opt in.** They scan the QR code, agree to matching and take a selfie in the browser. There is no app, no email address and no phone number. Guests under 18 are never face-matched.
4. **Each guest sees their own photos.** The photos arrive on their phone during the function, with your studio's logo on every one.

That is [wedding photo sharing with face recognition](https://filterpixel.com/wedding-photo-sharing) as FilterPixel runs it for studios today. It works across a multi-day wedding, with a gallery for each function from haldi to reception.

| The job | Photo booth | Guest-upload QR album | Photographer delivery with AI |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Equipment at the venue | Booth, light, backdrop, printer | A printed sign | A printed sign |
| Whose photos | The booth's | Guests' phone photos | The photographer's best frames |
| Who gets them | Guests who queue | The couple, in one album | Every adult guest who opts in |
| How a guest finds theirs | They are handed a strip | Scroll the whole album | One selfie |
| Quality control | None needed | Whatever is uploaded | Culled and edited first |
| When | At the booth | As guests upload | During each function |
| Studio branding | On the print | Usually none | Logo or watermark on every photo |
| Typical cost | $886 median rental | Free to about $150 | Sold by the studio as an add-on |

## What a couple saves, and what a studio gains

| Who | Line | Published figure |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Couple | Photo booth rental they can skip | $886 median, $1,305 at the upper quarter |
| Couple | Developing ten disposable cameras | About $150, before buying the cameras |
| Studio | Booth to buy in order to offer guest photos | Nothing. The add-on is software |
| Studio | Print media, if you still want live prints | About 16.7 cents per 4×6 |

**For the couple,** the comparison is the booth line in the budget. If the reason for the booth was to give guests photos of themselves, the photographer's own photos do that without it.

**For the studio,** the gain is a new line on the quote with no equipment behind it. Offering guest photos used to mean owning a booth or a printer and sending someone to run it. Delivery by QR code and selfie works with the photos your team is already taking, and each shared photo carries your logo into guests' feeds.

This article does not quote a FilterPixel price. Ask us for studio pricing before you price your own add-on.

### Three things to settle before you offer it

1. **Upload from the venue.** Decide who on your team sends cards or frames up between functions. Our [nine-step delivery workflow](https://filterpixel.com/blog/9-steps-to-deliver-wedding-photos-faster-complete-workflow-step-by-step) covers the handover.
2. **Consent wording.** Agree with the couple how guests are asked, and whether any function runs without face matching.
3. **What goes out.** Set your editing profile and watermark once, so every function looks the same.

## Consent, privacy law and children

Face matching needs clear consent. India's [Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023](https://www.meity.gov.in/static/uploads/2024/06/2bf1f0e9f04e6fb4f8fef35e82c42aa5.pdf) asks for consent that is free, specific and informed, and defines a child as anyone under 18. Under [Article 9 of the GDPR](https://gdpr-info.eu/art-9-gdpr/), biometric data used to identify people is special-category data. FilterPixel asks each adult guest before any selfie, uses it only to find that guest's photos, and never face-matches guests under 18. You can also run a wedding with no face matching at all. Check with your own counsel.

## What is live today

Culling, branded delivery by QR code and opt-in selfie, and delivery during the function are live, along with live prints at the venue if you want them. Selling photos to guests from the album is coming soon. Live delivery has run at events including Google for Startups events in India and the ET Global Business Summit; [the case study is here](https://filterpixel.com/blog/how-filterpixel-enabled-real-time-photo-delivery-at-a-google-led-event).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do QR code photos work at a wedding?

A QR code on a sign or table card opens a web page on the guest's phone. Depending on the service, the guest either takes or uploads their own phone photos into a shared album, or receives the photographer's photos of them.

### How do I create a QR code for my wedding pictures?

Pick a service, create the album or event, and it generates the code for you. Print it on the welcome sign, table cards and the bar, and tell guests about it once from the microphone.

### What is the best QR code for wedding photos?

It depends on which photos you want. A guest-upload album collects phone photos for the couple. A photographer-led service sends each guest the professional photos they appear in, which is what most guests want to post.

### How much does a QR code for wedding photos cost?

A QR code is free to generate. What you pay for is the service behind it. PartyCam's May 2026 comparison lists guest photo apps from free tiers up to $149.99 per event. For comparison, the median wedding photo booth rental is $886 in Check Cherry's 2026 data.

### Is a QR code cheaper than a photo booth?

Yes, by a wide margin on the published figures: guest photo apps top out at about $150 per event in PartyCam's comparison, against a median of $886 for a wedding photo booth rental.

### Can guests get the photographer's photos during the wedding?

Yes. With FilterPixel the studio uploads from the venue as each function runs, the best frames are kept, and adult guests who opt in with a selfie see their own photos on their phones during the celebration.

### Do guests need to download an app?

Not with FilterPixel. The code opens in the phone's browser, and guests are not asked for an email address or phone number.

### Are children face-matched?

No. Selfie matching is offered to adults only, and guests under 18 are never face-matched.

## One sign, and every guest has their photos

QR code photos are worth setting up when the code leads to the photos guests want. For a wedding studio that means your best frames, on each guest's phone, while the celebration is still going.
